Dryers for Biomass Briquettes and Wood Pellets

A wood pelletizing line or biomass briquetting line is composed of many parts, a necessary one of which is the dryer. We know that, after crushed, the raw materials still keep relatively high moisture content, approximately 60%, though the size basically met the requirements of pelletizing/briquetting. Of course, such high moisture cannot be put directly into the wood pellet presses, for the pellets/briquettes made out in such a way would not give you the disired result. At this time, a dryer will be of great use.

No matter it is biomass briquettes or wood pellets that you are about to produce, the dryer plays a prominent part in the whole procedure. Generally speaking, there are two kinds of dryers separately for the two different uses mentioned above - the dryers for biomass briquette machines and the rotary drum dryers for wood pellet machines.

A dryer for biomass briquetting

Let's see the dryers for biomass briquette machines first. With simple working principle, it is so easy to understand. After damp sawdust is put into the hopper, the stove begins to generate hot wind. Then, the wet material is sucked into the pipes by the exhaust blower, and travels a tortuous way down the pipeline and passes by a buffer of the dryer. Thus the material are fully dried. Finally, the sawdust passes the cyclone and then is discharged from the outlet with airlock.

A rotary drum dryer for wood pellet mills

The rotary drum dryers for wood pellet machines basically use the similar working principles except for the different appearances and application areas. The wet material is firstly put into the rotary drum dryers from one end. With the machine starting functioning, the material is turned over by stirring-up rake in the cylinder and evenly distributed on the bottom. During the process, the evenly spread material contact completely with the hot air inside, so the material becomes dry and discharged from the star valve.

Both the two types of dryers above can accurately set the air temperature with advanced thermostatic control mechanism, to ensure qualified moisture. Compared with dryers for biomass briquette machines, the rotary drum dryers for wood pellet presses have more choices on fuel for heating, such as gas or oil.
